The General Data Protection Regulations came into force in the EU and the UK on May 25, 2018, setting a new standard for the protection of personal information for all countries. This well-enforced regulation has changed the way companies collect, store, process, share and delete personal data of EU/UK data subjects.

With 11 Chapters, 99 Article and 173 Recitals, GDPR is both deep and wide and requires extensive knowledge of the law in order to implement compliant programs. And it applies to any company doing business in the EU or UK.

The first stage of the California Consumer Privacy Act 2018 comes into force July 1, 2020, while the second part has recently been introduced in draft form. Bottom line: organization can no longer just do as they please with individual’s data. Specifically when sharing or selling people’s personal information.

The Attorney General will enforce this law and there is a private right of action built in as well. If your organization does business in the USA, CCPA compliance is a must.
